a simple battery question!

how do i take the battery off without the alarm goinh off.... The sticker on car says consult manual but manual says disconnect neg first. HOWEVER from my clio days when you take the neg off or even positive the alarm still goes off... And the clios alarm was a pulsing evil, deafness inducing alarm and i dont wanna make that mistake again!! Astra coupe btw is the car, standard alarm etc.

Open the bonnet and have a spanner close to hand near the battery. Open your drivers door or drivers window. Turn the keys in your ignition until the dash lights come on. Turn the ignition back off and remove keys from ignition and keep them with you. You now have time to get back to the battery and remove the NEG lead before the power sounder alarm goes off.

ON my astra i can use another method - Undo the negative and lift off, sounder goes off so reconnect loosely. now hold switch down under the bonnett just above battery and disconnect the negative. Hey presto! no sounder going off.

Johnnys' way works as well. some people dont have the under bonnet switch....
