this is how i did mine,and i did it without stripping the lever down.
with the gear lever on the bench remove the blue arrowed holder,you twist it anti clockwise and lever it up with a couple of screwdrivers
when you have the holder unclipped there should be an oring,on mine i removed this as it will no longer fit and you dont need it ,
i cut up a pepsi bottle cap and cut it so it can be unfolded as in the pic
with this cap you can slot it inbetween the outer casing and the plastic bushing that the lever sits in,you can see the cap arrowed in the next picture
when you have fitted the cap it would pay you to grease the ball before refitting the holder which needs a gentle tap with a hammer,before reassembling the holder make sure the gear lever moves freely,on my lever there is no play whatsoever and it moves freely,when i did my last lever i used the plstic straps off the raw plug strip,the total cost can be as much as nothing
