possible piston rings loads of smoke

hey i had the timing chain done due to recent rattle 500 all in....2 weeks later as i started the car drove bout 100metres then the oil light came on then this noise sounded like a land rover diesel lol pulled over got the garage to recover it but he says its nothing to do wid the chain its the rings cracked...is it his fault for faulty fitting...i swear the chain slipped and smashed up the pistons well its been there 2weeks now and he wants 60 quid recovery...check this as i was walking up to the garage noticed him getting in my car ...ayyyy yeah he drove it now engine sounds sweet but loasds of smoke wot is goin on

If the chain had slipped it would have at least bent a few valves, so if the engine is running quiet now then seems to be unlikely. If the oil warning light came on then maybe that's where the real issue lies. The smoke does sound like a ring has gone, possibly due to oil starvation.

To be honest this is why I'm in two minds whether to replace my chains or not. I know at 93k they need doing - but so far the car has cost me nothing beyond routine servicing. How much money do you spend on a ten year old car?

that is down to you,i have just done a head gasket,fitted a second hand head and also fitted a new exhaust manifold on a 1998 vectra b,i charged the bloke just over £500 including parts,the parts coming to just over £400.problem is for £500 would the replacement car be any better?

Don't want to take this off topic - any replacement would be £7-9k. Just everyone tells me to change the chains, but there's no noise at all, and I'd rather not start spending money at this stage unless I have to.
