high oil consumption

Hi all ,
I think i have a problem with my Vectra c.I put 1 liter per 1000 km.My engine is Z22SE(2004) .Can somebody help me ???

Any sign of leaks?

Any sign of blue smoke from exhaust? Or a puff of blue smoke on startup and after idling for a while (usually a sign of valve stem seals going)

What's the mileage on the car?

Is this a recent development, or has it always used a fair amount of oil? In the handbook (which I read too long ago) I think the stated oil consumption sounds alarmingly high. Mine doesn't use much, about 0.5 litre between 5k oil changes. But some do use more.

Before 4500 km i changed the oil.After then (3000 km) it doesnt changed , but the last 1000 km cost me 1 l of oil.Many times I watched the engine , but i never seen any leks or blue smoke. I will check tomorrow the compression.(excuse me for my bad English)The car is on 175000km.

Have a good look for leaks around the water pump, power steering pump and around the sump area.

If there is a leak and its fixed it'l help your problem.

Going by your millage it could be worn piston rings or valve stem seals /Guides.

If you full throttle it to the red line does it smoke past 5500rpm? normaly thats a sight of worn rings or guides.

Sorry to be negative 🙁 I had to rebuild mine after 80,000 miles due to oil consumption problems.

Which oil do you use? Mine's got also a high oil consumation, but only on full throttle on the autobahn.

I use 5w30.

1 litre per 1000km is acceptable

5/30 is very thin

try using genuine 10/40 oil as it is cheap and a tad thicker

i would check for leaks around areas burt suggested too 🙂

At a litre per 1,000km if it's a leak it ought to be pretty obvious.

I also use 5W/30 - engine's done 94k, as said, only uses about 0.5 litre between oil changes. But since I'm running with the original chain and oil feed I kind of like thinner oil! But it doesn't seem to lead to higher oil consumption as yet.

I'd guess you might well find that you are getting smoke on the overrun and after idling for a while. Harder to spot, but points to the valve seals. Cost about 10p each - but they are fiddly to get at.
