fuel leak!!??

hi guys i have got my sri 2.2 150 2001 model back on the road today BUT
notsure.gif i was going up the bypass with my partner and kids and all of a sudden there was a very bad smell of fuel :?:
i have had it on a four poster ramp with the engine running and theres no leaks or under the bonnet ?
the only thing i can think of is when i refitted the engine 2 days ago i forgot to fit the down pipe gasket
but that would be more exhuast fuems wouldent it and this smell came all of a sudden it was that bad it started to make me fell high and gave me a head ache even the mrs and kids had to walk home for safty reason :cry:
any help would be great

May sound daft but is your fuel cap tight?

Check the exhaust manifold for any leaks. Sometimes, exhaust fumes smell like fuel.

there is a leak from the down pipe but the smell came on sudenly and was very srong like a puddel of fuel it was defently neat fuel ?

Fuel pipes to and from fuel rail done up tight? How about the evap valve that attaches to the back of the standard air filter box? I've known this to cause a strong smell of fuel if the tank is near empty.

fuel pipes from the rail are done up tight but the first one i think is the return seens to wobble a bit but no sing of fuel at all and the valve on air box dont smell i also have 1/2 a tank of fuel

right i have checked again and the fuel return pipe on the injector rail is lose but the nuts tight i phoned vauxhall and the o ring in side the pipe is no longer avilable not even order in , what is ment to be there just a rubber o ring notsure.gif

If the o ring was missing it would be leaking fuel from the nut. My return pipe is loose at this point also and might nut is tight too.

there,s no fuel leaking but i cant understand where the bad smell of fuel is coming from do you not think its coming from there? cryb..

What if you start the car and put your nose to the wobbly pipe/nut and move it about and sniff? I know you'll look bonkers whilst doing it but have a go.

Ultimately if you can smell a vapour then you will have a leak of fuel.

The evap system was might thought. Isn't there some sort of charcoal filter behind the front n/s wheel under the arch liner??

i cant work this out yesterday it smelt like there was a puddle of petrol in my car today i can smell it dunno..

Something else.....have a look under the back seat (driver side) pull up the cut out in the carpet and have a look around the top of the fuel tank.

i really have a clue where the smell could have come from i was there for at least a hour then i parked it up till today
