New to this site, so thought I'd be polite and say hello. I have a 2001 Vectra B 2.2 petrol, having previously run Corsas, Astras, Cavaliers, Combo, so kind of a Vauxhall guy. I spend of lot of time taking Corsas to bits and mending them for other people. So far I have had to do very little to my Vectra in 92,500 miles. It's been serviced regularly, with oil and filter changes every 5k, plus a Forte oil flush every 10k. I use semi-synthetic 5W-30 in it since this is the oil Ford recommend for their Zetecs with small oil passageways. Seemd to be a good idea for the Z22SE oil feed issue.
Faults so far - well the air con never really worked from new - and I had a loose banjo on the power steering a couple of years ago. One new exhaust. Plus the usual consumables, tyres, brakes pads, etc. Otherwise it's been utterly reliable, and is as it came out of the showroom. Including the timing chains and oil feed. So there's an issue!
On many of the Corsas I've known the timing chain does huge mileages so long as the oil changes are more frequent than standard servicing guidelines. Reading this site Vectras seem to be significantly weaker than the Corsa. Since mine is at 92k the usual advice is to replace both chains at 100k.
I can see that being necessary where the oil has been changed as per Vauxhall specificiations, at 20k, and using their specified oil. My chain runs very quiet, no noises at all. So I'm wondering if other members have run their past 100k on the basis of more frequent oil changes, or do they run silent and then snap without warning?
Not that it gets much use these days. Since we sold the caravan it sits in the drive most weeks going nowhere.
