Hi All
After a bit of a search on timing issues and fitting chains I think I've come to the conclusion that my chain's jumped a tooth but I'm hoping someone can confirm this for me!
A bit of background, it's a VX200 and it's been idling roughly for a couple of weeks and hesitating below around 2500 rpm (having to give it 3000 and slip the clutch to get it moving!). I've been through a few possible causes (egr, spark plugs, coilpack) and the chain was next on my list. It's been into vauxhall for a service and they've done a diagnostic, found nothing apart from high inlet vacuum pressures and they wanted 5 hours labour to find out if it was the timing so I kindly said I'd have a look myself.
So... I've had the rocker cover off this morning and whilst wondering how I'm going to get it to TDC without taking the undertray off I notice by some miracle it's there already!
Here are the pics, sorry they're rubbish, only way I could see by getting my phone in there:
Am I right there? No coloured links but I've read they're not on the older chains or is it possible to line it up with the links elsewhere?
I've read that there should be 14 chain links between the timing marks when it's timed correctly, I can count 15 on mine so I'm pretty sure it's jumped. See pic below:
15 right? I'm not going mad?! Is counting the links enough to know?
So if this is the problem my next question is how can I go about getting this replaced ASAP? I'm an engineer so I'm not scared of having a go myself but I don't think I've got the time or space and I just want to get it back on the road. Obviously not driving it at the moment for fear of it going bang. I don't know if I'll have got away without valves hitting pistons either?!
I hear Benny's the man for this kind of thing? Does anyone know if he does the VX220? Or anyone more local (I'm in Mansfield/Nottingham) that would be able to do this reasonably. I don't mind traveling for a good job, probably going to stick it on a trailer.
Thanks in advance for any help, sorry for the long post but I hope it's clear from all that!
