Cold days causing F23 shifting problems.

2001 vectra Sri

I am having real problems with my F23 at the moment. Sometimes its takes real effort to get it into gear :? . I have a short shifter fitted and had the fluid changed and have had the alignment of the cables checked.

Seems to be the cold weather causing the problems as it improves on longer drives or warmer days, still not great though.

There was a field remedy for this, thought it was for new cables that were less likley to catch for smoother operation. Checked it out on the EPC and it has it down as a revised 1st to 2nd gear selector ring 🙁 which sounds like a big and expensive job.

Has anyone had a similar experience, any ideas on how to improve the shift in colder weather? Its embarrising to have to coast on the dual carrigeway trying to get it into gear. 😃

I must admit in really cold weather 1st gear selection in mine is a bit harder to select than normal.

I have no problems with gear selection on my Vectra Sri 150 cold or warm weather, very smooth change up and down the box. Even with the current cold weather with have just experienced.
Did your gear selection problems exist before fitting the short shifter and changing the oil :?:
Did you overfill the box or wrong grade of oil being used now :?:
Clutch worn causing gear selection problems :?:
Does the gear lever move freely without stiffness :?:

There is its something along the lines of changing the gearbox oil and over fill it by 1/2 a ltr its what i did and it made a real difference.

I dont even notice it now :wink:

mines a right pain in the arse to get into 1st i normally have to drop into 2nd and couple times before eventually getting into 1st.
think i'll change the oil like you said burt

It was better when it was warmer.
got the oil changed it see if it was help but there was no difference. They said they changed it based on current vaux guidence for the f23 with my code, I was aware of the over fill advice in some boxs.
the clutch is higher than it was a couple of months ago, did cross my mind given that its hydraulic adjuster, also old slave cylinder might not be helping. Buts that a big job with the subframe being dropped and I dont think its worn out just yet.
Yea, the gear lever moves freely and its the last 1/2 an inch, which suggests to me the selector ring issue as per the field remedy.

Anyone had the field remedy work done? If so what was involved and how expensive was it,

I have no problem with the gear of my choice Vectra 150 Sri Lanka, cold or warm weather, very smooth changes up and down box. Even in the cold weather has just gone through.

i have the same sort of problem in my coupe

1st gear seems to be the problem for me

sometimes it glides in nicely others you really have to force it

it can make driving the car a very frustrating experience :thumbdown:
