Hi there,
i have just this week bought a Vectra 2.2 SRI (03 plate) with 40k miles, and i am now starting to worry if i have made a very costly mistake.
Basically, i found out that my car has a cam chain, so i looked on the internet to see if and when it would need changing, and i see that there are many people that have had chains snap on them, and at low mileages, and i can't afford for this to happen!
The service history for my car is missing, and i don't know if my particular model has an inherent cam chain/oil nozzle problem. So i've called my local Vauxhall garage in Norwich, and they have suggested that i get the cam chain/kit changed by 60k miles. I don't know if i should risk leaving it that long, so i asked for a quote, Vauxhall have quoted to change my cam chain and oil nozzle and tensioners at £889.60!!!!!!!!
Can anyone advise me if ........a) my car is at risk of having a chain snap and b) is it usual for it to cost almost £900 to have it changed?
I would really appreciate any help and advice!
Thanks!
Harry
