LightWeight Flywheel - 5.6 or 4.2 - which one?

Hi folk!

I've decided to change the flywheel and just wanted to know which one to choose:

5.6kg from Courtenaysport

4.2 from TTV

The price is not an issue here, but the performance and also the idle, top speed and responsive of the car.
Please, all of your advises based on experience are much appreciated.

I love my lightened bottom end!
My knifed edged crank is a work of art!!!!

But my idle with stage 2 comp cams is a pain in the arse!
Its lumpy as f#ck, going slowly in traffic is a nightmare

IMHO Go for the lighter flywheel (or machine the standard one) if your not going to touch the crank

I had the courtenay flywheel and now have the TTV, they are both very good :thumbup:

with the webcon throttle bodies I have no problems with the tickover, going slowly or lumpy running 😃

If i spent £2k on throttle bodies & standalone ecu i would expect my engine to do so!

I do like to offer advice to our members, whether it's on topic or off topic 😃

our members need to know that throttle bodies are one of the very best mods for the z22se engine and that the courtenay and TTV flywheels are very good :clap:

I prefer not to grind my stock flywheel, but to order new one.
So the TTV is the lighter one, but should i balance it with the crank or just bolt it on?

Will it harm to my idle and what about the top speed and acceleration?

I had my Courtenay flywheel fitted before the SC conversion. I had Schrick cams and a reworked head and the engine idled as normal. Revved nice and freely.

Obviously with a much lighter flywheel you should see an increase in fuel consumption but that's all part of the tuning process.

In that case the TTV is a good choice and shall get one.
What about the balance, should i balance it with the crank or the flywheel is balanced already?

How does a lightened flywheel increase fuel consumption?

Less rotating mass whilst cruising. In the urban driving world it'll probably be more efficent as there's less load to get spinning but as for motorway driving/cruising the heavier flywheel can aid the turning of the engine.

the courtenay flywheel is not as well balanced as the TTV flywheel, both both will be fine if you don't want to get them balanced any more.

Can you be more specific, i am a bit confused by this?

the TTV is better balanced and is made from a single piece of metal

the courtenay version has a removable ring gear for the starter motor - like the original GM version
