Cam Chain Noise

I have just started up my 51 plate 2.2 SRI vectra after a weeks holiday and it has developed a nasty rattle from the cam chain area. Took it into my local trusted garage (non-VX), they checked and changed the filter (old one was ok) & have flushed the engine but the problem still exists.

I have since read all the horror stories on the VX websites and it appears that experiences when dealing with VX on this particular cam belt problem are wide and varied.
My engine number is 11031952 and my chasis number ends in 17097886.
The car has been serviced regulary (50% VX, 50% non-VX).

Qn 1: Does the field remedy 1532 relate to the nozzle problem & lack of lubrication to the chain for all engines prior to 11065400 and therefore mine ?

Qn 2: Does the rework notice 03P24 (Nov03) for a particular chasis number range just apply to a problem with the tensioner ?

I would appreciate some advice as I am about to go into battle with VZ on Monday.

first thing to do m8 is have a look at the tensioner,see if its got the cutouts on the corners of it.

From the pic u see the white dot thers acut out above and below it,if ures has this its been done.
mine had been done but it started to rattle so i changed the lot..

if it's rattling when cold from the camchain area, get the chain replaced

it may be £400, but cheaper than a new engine :shock:

Went into local VX dealer over weekend and left all my details, ie. probem (cam chain rattle). engine number, chasis number, etc. and quoted the magical field remedy 1532.
Got a call from them today, they said they would do job at VX cost. All a had to do was get car towed down to garage. Result!
The dealer has been spot on so far, just hope the job goes OK. Due back Wed / Thurs hopefully.

Picked car up from Dealers on Wednesday, cam chain rework complete, what a difference: a rattle-free car again !!
Just hope it stays that way.

how olds your car if you dont mind me asking .. did you have warrenty etc ?

Yep, all covered by warranty. I think it helps if the dealer acts on your behalf to get authorisation for the work. I've read alot of bad experiences on the web of people dealing with 'customer care' direct.
Hope this is a sign that VX are now accepting that it was a design fault and that others with the the same problem will be treated the same.

Cars a 51 plate (2001) i.e. pre the march 2002 timing chain mod. I did'nt have any additional warranty cover with VX. They did'nt even ask to see my service records.

intresting i may have to give it a look at ... allthough they did send me a letter saying i was not effected im getting a little bit of a tappet sort of noise on first 20 seconds of start up .... not sure if its from cam chain area tho ... will have to see

i get on occasions a rattle for 2 secs on start up, It did this and I took it in for a checkover at VXL who informed me the chain was fine, just keep the oil topped up as the 2.2 uses upto a litre of oil every 1k.......

any truth in that???

i found my tapping is comming from the back of the engine near the exhaust manifold .. i red on here somewhree that this can cause a ticking sound ... bolts lose
