Well the idle does not fluctuate or hasn't on this occasion, so possible pending egr valve failure even though valve placed to one side and used for eml purposes only.
Im going to rephrase lumpy idle as the car idles smoothly then seems to dip or miss a beat when warm, so lumpy idle maybe a wrong description of the fault. As stated before i can hear a hiss coming from the power steering pump area. Can the pump or its internal workings have worn, causing a slight air leak within the pump, causing the idle to dip / miss a beat, this is a long shot but all other avenues checked, replaced new parts, cleaned etc. The car will idle evenly when the aircon is switched on, ticking over at 900rpm approx, so can the base idle setting be to low to maintain an even tick over when aircon switched off?
Looking at all the rough idle posts, no conclusive fix other than replacing different parts, cleaning etc has remedied this ongoing issue with the 2.2 engine.
My engine has covered 32000 mils from new and have done the following to try and remedy the problem notsure.gif
- Replace cts
- Replace thermostat
- Check all vacuum and associated hoses for leaks
- Checked all manifold joints
- Blank off egr valve and replace valve with cheater
- Check coil pack rubbers and interal springs
- Clean throttle body although no dirt or soot evident in the first instance
- Check all wiring connections clean and secure
- Run a good quality injector cleaner through the system BG 44K
- Change plugs
- Replace all filters
- Oil change to castrol edge 5w30
- Check for management faults using Maxiscan MS509 no faults or pending codes stored, reset as matter of course
- Use quality fuels Shell or BP
- No timing chain rattles from cold to hot very quiet.
- Head scratching and hair loss......
Please add your ideas or work carried out.... we might just crack this annoying problem
