2.2 vectra b is hunting on idle

Started to burn oil also

Have done sniff test and not headgaket issue

I seem to think it is EGR related, but i removed plugs the other day and 4 and 2 cylinder plugs were very oily ( although this was after i had cleaned the EGR )

Have a new set plugs on route from Vaux aswell as a oilfilter and oil

Also purchased a shand coilpack as am aware these can breakdown and cause issues

All im really wondering is if the issues listed above could be apparent from something as simple as the EGR

I havent ever seen a setup like this having never worked on that many ecotec engines before ( im more used to american muscle and french crap aswell as Jap cars through my race performance company.

Im pretty sure there isnt a major underlying issue, I noticed the cars down on power, often sluggish normally when its warmed up a bit ( the cat is rattling ) and i am dubious as to wether this has blocked my exhaust causing backpressure issues.

Ill be removing the exhaust tomorrow to see what I can find, prob going to buy a egr blanking plate and a cheater chip off here and see what happens.

What are your thoughts please

Even us more technical minded peeps have to seek advice from those in the know sometimes

also theres not enough oil to warrent it being stemseals or rings ! and compression seems good too

Cleared out the Precat was jammed solid

Cut the top off the pipe with a diskcutter, smacked the precat out and welded it back up

Job done, instant power !

Now stuck with a car that wont start though as after took for a test drive, turned it off went in workshop to do another car came out hometime and The ignition key wont turn in the ignition !!! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Got a complete steering column onroute atm so hopefully gonna fit that in the week, hopefully they come off fairly easily as a unit

you can also blank off the egr valve, either buy a plate or make a new gasket with the hole covered, but not the plunger which comes out of the valve rather than goes inwards

managed yesterday to get the car running on the blackbox ( with the transponder key by the ignition) no issues

problem now being I disconected battery
Drilled out the steering lock sheerbolts and dropped the steering lock out
tried to start the car same way as yesterday and it wont start ! now im unsure as to wether the Immob has kicked in and killed my fuel pump

I have a new steering column onroute atm with ignition housing and key attached so hoping this will cure it, if not how do i reset the immob ?? plug it in to tech2 ? or OBD2

needs to be matched to ecu and then reset

you need transponder , chip & ecu - if they are all matched then you dont need a tech2 to reser

though the central locking needs to be coded to immobilizer it wont stop the engine from being started

I know its a bit late now but the problem you described with the key not turning in the ignition sounds like something that hapend to me while I was at Alton Towers in the summer, 5Hrs from home!! :lol: Had to phone the AA and they took me to a locksmith at 2:00am, after sitting in the car park for 6hours watching everyone leave(noticed a nice blue SE2 drive away if anyone was there in July :lol: ), and he had it fixed whithin about 5mins.

He said that he had seen quite a few MK4 Astras where in extreme heat the Barrel in the ignition can 'swell' and 'dish' causing it to jam.

Maybe something to get checked? As If I wasnt with the AA might have cost a few quid.

Hi mate, im using my original transponder/chip and ecu

Just changing out the housing and barrel so shouldnt need recoding ??

nope

beleive it or not the chip / transponder is no way connected to the key

the chip just needs to be within a 20 - 30 cm of the transponder for it to disable the immobilizer

Managed to get her runnign again momenterily off the blackbox again today to get her into the workshop out the snow until the steering column arrives, I reckon when i blackboxed the ignition I had a wire out on the electrics causing the fuel pump not to kick into action and hence why she wouldnt start, all sorted today and with the key nearby the transponder she kicked into life.

Hoping the new steering column will be here midweek and can get it all sorted out, also purchased a DD backbox for her, new coilpack, plugs, mirror and few other parts 🙂

All sorted now running on a new ignition switch 🙂
