Off to look at a 2.2 Astra Coupe with 100k miles.... anxious

Hi all, I'm new here so hi!

Was sent this way to ask you guys regarding the chain lubrication issues with the earlier Astra Coupes.

I was originally looking at spending upto £2200 on one, but a lovely clean black one has come up for sale locally at £1700. It has full service history, but 100k miles on the clock.
Would you be concerned regarding the chain at this mileage? How would I go about finding out if it had been changed, or ensure I wouldn't have any problems with it in future? If it hadn't been changed and still had the crappy oil injector components, would you buy?

Hi and welcome!

There is no real way to tell if the car you are going to view has the latter spec timing chain. The only way to tell is by checking the cars service history to see if it has had the timing chain replaced. The chains are stated as lasting the life time of the vehicle, this is actually 100,000 miles, therefore it will need replacing immediately to be safe. Listen out for any metallic rattles on cold start when you see the car. This is a good audible way to know if the chain is on its way out.

both chains are due to be changed at 100,000 miles
