Loud noise!

Morning everyone.

On my way to work this morning I was in some slow moving traffic. I touched my brakes to come to a stand still and there was what I can only describe as a loud smash from the drivers side front area. It sounded like it had come from around the brake pedal area. The noise was very strange as it sounded like glass smashing. It was very audible from inside the car. I did have my window half way down, but it didn't sound like it came from outside. Turned around on a roundabout and came back the same way looking for glass on the road but there wasn't any.

Sorry for the long post, does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone heard this before?

Spring snapped?

I pulled into a lay by and gave the spring on the drivers front side a good yank yet nothing moved. Took the car on some back roads on the way home from work, hit a few bumps; the car sounded solid, no knocking. Would a snapped spring be able to still function ok, or would it be noticable immediately? :problem:

I noticed when my spring fractured it made a similar noise, but it was my rear spring even though it sounded like it came from the front. Failed the MOT days after. I noticed that if i took a roundabout bit too fast i got massive understeer and a lot of tyre squealing!

I will have a check on the way home tonight, see how it feels on the roundabouts.

If it has snapped it's just an excuse to start the modding! :twisted:

I'm still here! Didn't get a chance to test the car last night, will check it tomorrow morning. Hopefully was just a glass bottle which was catapulted off the road! How common a fault is this?
