Hi

i recently bought a 2.2 SRi 150 that needed a few jobs doing to it.

1 of the probs was that the previous owner had managed to lose the transponder chip from his key fob, which was a bit of a problem when he only had the 1 key!! :crazy:

Basically i've just bought a lock & ecu set with 2 key fobs off of ebay. Fitted the ecu & transponder reader today & the car now starts fine. The problem i have now is that i can only lock/unlock the car with the key. Every time i unlock it & open the door the alarm goes off until i've put the key in the ignition :roll:

I alkso noticed that the light on the original fob for the car wasn't working when either remote buttons pressed, so i opened it up to the check the battery & found that the battery holder has broken away from the circuit board :thumbdown:

What i want to know is can i get the 2 fobs i've just bought programmed to the car or do i have to buy brand new fobs?

u buy 2 new fobs off ebay and just move the key & chip over

as you can see the key splits in 2

the chip is like a tiny black square object about 5mm in length and 2 mm wide

to program central locking put key in ignition with ignition on and press button on fob

should tell you how in operating manual

Tried this & it doesn't work. I've also been told that it only works for keys that have been previously coded to the car & is just to resync them!! As the actual remote fobs came from another car i need to get somebody with diagnostic gear to code them to my car.

The "car with spanner" light is on all the time now as well since changing ecu, transponder reader & transponder chips in the keys. It def wan't on before i changed everything. Thinking it may be something to do with the fact the remote fobs aren't programmed to the car

Right!!

just spoke to an auto diagnostics technician & he's basically just told me my car is now running with 2 codes!! the new ECU & immob are operating on the code that's built into them but my alarm & c/l is running off the old code from my original ECU. He told me that to get this problem sorted I need to have the 4 digit codes for both ECU's!!

I can get the code for the original ECU easy enough but getting the code for the new ECU may be a bit more difficult, if i can get it at all that is!! just great!! :evil:

He asked me why i didn't just buy a brand new key, get the codes for original ECU from vauxhaul & then get somebody to code it!! So i told him i'd been told on a forum it's easier/cheaper to to buy a full ECU & lock set & just swap the parts over!! I won't say what he then said in response to that!! :silent:

He says if i can't get the codes for the new ECU so i can get the remotes programmed then i'm basically stuffed!!

He says i may be better off just refitting my old ECU & buying 2 brand new uncoded keys!! :roll:

i am under the impression the alarm / central locking relates to the body control module

is the car actually running ?

to reset alarm / central locking you need security pass code for car it has nothing to do with the actual ECU as the body control module is programmed for the cars keys

Yep, like I said in my original post the car starts & runs fine!! i'm just having trouble with the alarm & central locking side of things!!

The thing that's doin my head in is that i've now spoken to a vauxhall dealership & 2 other auto diagnostic guys & every 1 of them has told me I need the 4 didgit code from the car i got the replacement ECU from etc which I can't get unless i've got the V5 registered in my name!! :? They all said to basically refit my old ECU & buy 2 new blank keys & have them coded!!

I've just looked in my haynes manual & it states that the central locking works through a "body control unit!!" &is combined with the anti-theft system!! I've emailed the seller on Ebay asking if he's got the body control unit, if so all i've gotta do is remove mine & fit the replacement then everything should be sorted!! hopefully!! notsure.gif

Right got the c/locking & alarm sorted!! :thumbup:

The guy on ebay that i bought the ECU, key & lockset from still had the c/l & alarm body control unit fitted to the car. He didn't even know it had 1 or where it was!! notsure.gif as he's not a breakers, it's his own car he crashed & is stripping to sell!!

Anyways, he sent me the body control unit. Took me about 10mins to fit it max & now the r/c/l & alarm work properly!! 😃 He didn't even charge me for postage or anything for it!! bonus!!

Now all i've gotta do is get the passenger window regulator, crank pulley seal sorted, give it a service then decide what i'm gonna do with it!! notsure.gif

i dunno if this helps, and sorry if already mentioned, but for now to stop it driving you mad, just lock internally from one of the passenger doors (press drivers side lock) my mrs does the same and fook me they are loud when your trying to turn it off!!! :shh: :lol:

If you read the 3rd post up from yours you'll see that i managed to sort it earlier in the wk!! :thumbup:

All i needed was the body control unit from the same car I got the ECU, transponder reader & keys from as they all have the same code. When i bought the replacement ECU etc I didn't get the body control unit with it. I bought them from a guy on Ebay who'd crashed his car & was selling it in bits. He didn't even know the body control unit existed until i told him. I didn't know about it till i'd looked in the Haynes manual. I'd fitted the ECU etc which had same code as new keys but my original body control unit was fitted so it was messing the alrm & central locking side of things up as it has the same code as my original ECU & keys.

So i emailed him asking him if he'd still got it, he said he had cos he hadn't removed any little black boxes from behind the drivers footwell trim as he didn't think anything was there in the 1st place. He sent it next day delivery & didn't charge me any ectra at all, even after i asked if he wanted some for postage etc!!

Anyways, i fitted it in about 10mins on Monday & now everything works as it's meant to.

I'm now gonna sell my original ECU & body control module on Ebay. Somebody may find them useful!!
