27.5 MPG, carefull driving, is that bad??

Just wondered if maybe there was something that might need replacing to help improve my mpg?

27 mpg with carefull driving is pretty bad considering my vec B is pretty much standard bar the normal pre cat removal, egr delete, and 3 pipe mod, I guess something must be not working properly.......

Sounds exactly right to me. When mine was standard I was lucky to get 25mpg town driving. To get 27mpg you are doing well.

I saw Parker list the 2.2 as 33 mpg, but that must be mild coasting along the motorway!

It is nice to have the extra power of the 2.2, but I can see a 2001 1.7 derv could save me £1100 a year for my daily commute, so I'm considering switching to something more economical, and the tax is only £35 for an Eco4...

I was pished when I saw my tax this year had gone up (again! :crazy: ) from £215 to £245, that's just daylight robbery IMO :thumbdown:

There seems to be such a vairant on whats achievable with the 2.2. I cover about 75miles a day on a mixture of roads including motorway. I've had the car for a couple of months now so still getting used to it, but if i fill the tank I'm getting a 450mile return. Since i've had the car ive averaged 36.7MPG..!
I mean yeah if i add the right foot the mpg plummets but still averaging over 35mpg everytime i fill up.

Mines not standard either its fitted with full stainless steel exhaust, de-restricted air box, large intake and a panel filter.

On the motorway I can return 38mpg as the car is now. In standard form on the motorway it was about 43mpg.

We really are finding some vairiations to the mpg question.

I would be lucky to get 325 miles to a tankfull in mine, let alone 450 !.....

I wouldn't trust the in car consumption meter to tell me my MPG, I bet the one in the link above is FUBAR :lol: Note the replys stating they get 27 ish :think:

I guess motorway miles are much kinder on the fuel gauge

scared the living piss out of me seeing the remaining miles left in the tank when u floor it in a turbo - i lost 20 miles in a 2 minute spurt

I'm sitting on 26 mpg at the moment and that all City centre driving. On the last good run I gave her I got 39 there and back to Wales. With the colder weather coming in my MPG had dropped 1-2MPG, I don't know if that's the norm on this engine or just a side effect of running a MAF. I'm actually considering refitting my EGR for the winter as I think the warmer intake does actually help MPG. I used to have a Mini many moons ago and with the after market inlet you could have it water heated or not depending if you wanted economy or not. Also when I took the EGR off it was this time of year and I noticed a drop in MPG.

Mine must be :thumbdown: 24.2 around town, 30ish motorway driving. Car has only covered 31000 miles from new. Only mod egr blanked off, did notice fuel cosumption increase after blanking the egr.

Ouch some bad MPG's there, I never checked mine against the display, I guess mine is FUBAR, as it often tells me I have more fuel at the end of a journey than I had at the start lol!

I'm starting to wonder if I might be better to take the slightly long route to work that takes in a few miles of motorway.

yep i know that one.foot on the floor up the M1 6.7mpg

I find that is the same in mine, I get the best MPG sat at just over 60mph in the inside lane.

Mine used to do around 22 round town and no more than 27 on a run......
