Astra 2.2 tuning

Hi all,
Just moved here from the AOC (same user name) as I'm looking to get a 2.2 coupe sometime soon (my last car was an Astra mk4 1.6 16v)

I am curious to the mods people do on here, and there is a lot o info around these boards.

I want a little more go. Supercharging is out of the question as for the extra expense and hassle with insurance I'd rather just get a turbo scooby.
I have read the 2.4 intake mani is only good if you plan on doing pricey mods like cams and throttle body.

I'm thinking a "cheap" method to get a few more ponies is full cat back, decat-precat and 200-cell cat, and a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.

How is this going to be on terms of power, torque and responsiveness?

AFAIK, a 4-1 mani will push the power to the high rpms, while a 4-2-1 will keep it low-mid. Can anyone confirm this?

Also I read that induction kits are not advised (well cone types anyway). What would be a suitable alternative to this- without drilling holes in the airbox.

Well the cheapest mods to start with is de-restrict your airbox with K&N panel filter & removed the darn pre-cat! For about £30 - £40 (maybe cheaper) for the filter and some TLC from yourself then this is a good start!

If you want cheap tuning, go buy a turbo!
na tuning is a money pit!

Dont waste your money on a K&N panel, the gains are tiny!
De-restrict your airbox
fit a larger inlet scoop

do a search and read some of the posts regarding tuning
Avoid 68mm throttle bodies and 2.4 manifolds until you have fitted cams

i agree, dont waste money on k&n filter, jus de restrict the air box, (no drilling holes, ul be letting hot air in from the engine and all the cold air going in will be spat back out through the holes drilled) and put a vectra air scoop which is bigger then the astra one, there is a part number on this site or someone will knw wht it is as its a common mod, makes a massive diff with regards 2 response, and irons out flat spots, i get power right up2 6 thousand revs since iv done these.

So what sort of power can you expect from derestricted airbox, vectra c intake, straight through centre section and precat removed? Would it give something like 150bhp? Standard is 147bhp afaik.

I was expecting at least a few people to know as that must be a very common setup 😉
