need advice.im going to attempt to change chain tensioner on se.are they easy to do and is there a way of locking cams without the tool.?

If the tensioner is flat on the head, it cannot be done. You have to replace to a new timing chain kit.

the kit was changed 2 weeks ago but think tensioner has failed so going to replace myself.

Perhaps the tensioner is not activated correct, you need to check this. Try to search on the site for this topic..

got new tensioner and iv worked out how to activate it but how do i change it without the tool?

get no1 piston to top dead centre and then simply remove and fit the new tensioner

soz for jumping on thread , but can these be brought seperate & is it best to use vauxhall , price quoted @ £47 just for the tensioner ie the 30/32 mm bolt at back of the head

, i was quoted 67 plus vat from vauxhall. but i managed to get a full cam chain kit from andrew page for £67 plus vat but it didnt include new chain wheels as other kits do.

well just phoned local vx dealer & got it for £70 inc vat ( 2 day delivery ) , so asked ,asked why the £47 quote & said it was an old item now been super seeded by this 1 costing more ,

so hopefully trhis will calm down the start up rattle , as seems to do in other post / instances

well got the new tensioner , fitted &all runs lovely , no rattle on start up any more , found bits of metal in the old tensioner , so weather was some fillings left in from head skim , but then did relegious blow it out , may of missed a bit thou , but was a bit of wear on the slider on the old tensioner
