i ve recently bought a 2.2 sri on a 52 plate.its giving me nothing but grief can anyone help?i had the timing ang balance chain along with the tensioner changed about 2 weeks since but the morning after when i started the car it rattled for a few seconds then cleared up but when the engine got hot it sounded like a diesel when it was idleing.is this a sign of a failed tensioner? notsure.gif

quite possibly

could be worn tappets
could be lack of oil pressure
could be faulty tensioner

either way i take it back to the person who replaced the chain

changed tappets and manifold gasket aswell. ive got another tensioner just on the off chance it might be that but want advice before changing it as im doing it myself.

I would check the tensioner has been released

how do i do that?ive got another 1 to replace it but can it be done without cam locking tool?

yes, as per the other thread, align no1 piston to tdc and then swap the tensioner

ensure it's released before fitting it, simply press it down on a hard clean surface and when you fit it it will need a little effort to start the threads, just press hard on the tensioner whilst turning the threads

no, just release the tension
