how long should a replacment chain last

hi all not been on for a while

really dissapointed with my 2003 z22se cabby edition 100 as its now at dealers waiting for possible 3rd chain

i bought the car in jun 08 and in dec 08 had the chain replaced by vauxhall dealer at my cost due to chain becomming noisey

now 22months and 14k later chain is noisey again

vauxhall have said well its been more than 12 months so tough youll just have to pay again

now had this been a new car chain would be covered for 6years or 60k which ever sooner (though car wasnt covered by this first time round)

surley the chain that has been supplied is not fit for the purpose intended as its failed after 14k

after this i dont think ill be buying vauxhall again

Well did you know under EU law you have 2 years warranty on items! The EU law states that this is a reasonable period of time that the product should last for. I didnt know this until someone told me. He was quoted it by 1 of his customers and of course he thought "wtf" until he looked it up.

So if you had a chain kit fitted (2 chains & bits etc) and something has failed then give it a try!

Ive been reading on the internet and cant find anyone who tried it with car dealers but worth a try!

If you buy goods from a trader, the Sale of Goods Act says they must be:

* Of satisfactory quality - the product you buy should be reasonably reliable.
* Fit for purpose - it should perform the function you bought it to do.
* As described - it should be exactly what the trader told you it was.

im hoping to get this sorted under my AA warranty but as they paid for most of it last time im not holding out much hope

i will keep you all updated on this

when i took my car into dealers today (towed in by AA) i mentioned the field remedey and asked how my car wasnt covered by this last time to be told that field remedys have nothing to do with it cos i didnt buy the car new from vauxhall

Well that is a load of bo***cks because when i bought my astra coupe from Vx under Network Q I got the full works! They even replaced my brake discs & pads 1 month before the end of the warranty! So as for what they told you perhaps you should keep arguing with them and even tell them you will take legal advice.

hi all

well just got off the phone with the dealers and my cabby needs a new chain now the aa warranty are saying that they wont cover it as the chain hasnt snapped ??????

got on the phone to them and they recon they only payout if the breakdown results in the car not being able to move

the aa patrol man told me in no uncertain terms that i must not start the car as it would cause more damage so obviously my car cannot move

so now gotta argue with aa waranty people and wait for them to call me back

makes you wonder what your paying for

How am i not surprised with these people. I always said those sort of companies dont have common sense and you are saving them money because it hasnt snapped! If it had they would have to pay out more. It makes you think that perhaps you should just drive it till it does snap and then say "there are its snapped" and let them spend more money replacing more parts!

got my cabby back today with new chains fitted also have all old parts (except gaskets)

theyre very oily which shows no lack of oil
