Just cuz I drive at 56mph on the motorway, don't let that fool you! The car gets a fair bit of point and squirt along with general driving.

You just need to buy the mount from Vx like I did and modify your current welded bracket to suit Paul. You need to damp the movement not stop it. You're lucky to get away with a broken weld. It could have been far more serious with a broken casing.

its not easy to see but it is bushed (bumber end).

it cracked and broke the other end (on the bends of the bracket).the metal to be fair was quite thin there.
it could be twisting where the engine mounts need replacing.

I recently made up a new gear box mount out of some 4mm steel plate and 2x1 1/4 poly bushes. Its stood up to a hammering quite well i know its not the same as with an s/c but its pritty strong.

Ill get some pics up of it.

I did notice a bit more vibration from it to start with but now its barely noticable. much quicker from a standing start and a but more feedback from it.

I recently found out that the astra doesnt have the front g/b mount its only on vectra's. Looks like we got the bum deal 🙁

yea sorry about the pics. Its a direct replacement for the gearbox mount as thats the one with way too much play in it.

Basicly you just swop the old soft one out with the new one.

does it stop the engine rocking?

It'l always rock slightly but its no where near as much as the standard mount.

Its one of the best mods iv done to my car :thumbup:

yeah it looks ok as it happens

one of the first things i would check on the 2.2 engine is the amount of play coming from that gearbox mount, you just tug the engine and you can see the play coming from that right hand side

never understood with that amount of play how a flexi would last considering it is being pulled & pushed
