I needed to go to Halfords to get some more screen wash, and they still had all the Professional tools on sale. I've had some of my socket sets a fair few years, and they are looking a bit sorry for themselves

My old socket sets
(Original Halfords cheap one.....had about 7 years)

and one I got as a present from someone

I bought the below Halfords 25 Piece Socket Set 3/8", which is great, apart from the ratchet mechanism is shite, and keeps locking in place and needs a good whack against the floor to get it going again.

So, for the price Halfords have got their Professional stuff for at the minute, it would be rude not to.

Got both the 3/8" set and the 1/4" set. I can now get rid of my two oldest socket sets, and make a bit of space in the shed.

Nice one, I was looking at those as well, as my draper bit set is also looking a bit tired now (bought it from a Motormania in Cornwall in 2002)

They look good matt. well worth it.

I used to make the mistake of buying cheap ratchets for at home but soon learned from busted hands that there just not worth it.

I only buy snap on ratchets or something with a good standard and then just buy cheep sockets.

I have also been buying some new tools this week, I've not bought any sockets for quite a long time, some are twenty years old, so I've been buying some Britool socket rails from e-bay, lovely quality and quite cheap too 😃

I recently bought the Halfords ratchet spanner sets so don't need any more spanners, shame as there are a few nice sets on ebay :silent:

The ratchet spanner sets look really nice from Halfords. I nearly bought one as well when we were going to be fitting the RARB, but just bought the sizes needed instead. When I came to do the engine mount last week, the only bloody size I needed I didn't have (16mm) 🙁

it is very very cheap and like 15 - 20% of what halfords charge

downside is they break after a bit of use

if i need to use a tool every time i pop the bonnet up i tend to go expensive

star bits for egr valves, coil packs, cam covers

The star bits I've got have been used every time I need to do something on the interior of the car, and I've been able to use them on ever car I've owned.

nightmare when u find out u need star bits for the first time

u go to halfords and brick it when u look at the price

Halfords tools arent too bad. I bought some a few years ago at higher prices. Had the ratchet with the yellow logo jam up on me couple of times but managed to take it apart and sort it out but otherwise a good buy id say

It jams on me every time I use it, and only last about 5 minutes before it jams up again. Will be OK to have as a spare one, as the rest of the tools in that set are pretty good.

i sprayed some white grease in mine and since then it hasnt jammed (did i speak too soon??)

Had a set of halfords pro spanner for around 8 years at home , and there on par with the snap-on ones i have in work....

good quality tools are hard to come by unless you can order direct from suppliers .

im the same i always buy britool for 1/4 inch drive and for some bizarre reason all me spanners and 1/2 inch drives are all kamasa as they have a lifetime garuntee that you can proper take the piss out of (all the old boys recomended!) and are very affordfable.

at college the teachers said to be honest if its made out of chrome vanadium it really doesnt matter what you buy.

I have a kamasa 3/8 socket set, must be 15 years old, I use it all the time and only the ratchet has failed (bought a halfords pro ratchet instead) :thumbup:

just ordered some more britool 1/4 sockets 😃

I also ordered some facom ratchet ring spanners, they have 8 sizes in just two spanners.
