Z22SE... 6 years old and covered 42k miles

Do I need to do anything to the engine? (i.e. the chain). I know the timing chain needs doing every 100k miles or so. But is there any period of time regardless the mileage when it needs to be done.

As I mentioned in the topic the car has done 42k miles and is 6 years old. Its service history doesn't give any evidence that the timing chain was ever done.

Should I just drive and enjoy it or does it need my attention? The car runs lovely.

No rattle from the engine or at least I didn't notice anything.

Btw how much roughly will I pay if I decide to have my timing chain serviced?

unlikely it will need it timing chain doing due to age and it is in a mark 4 astra

use genuine 10/40 vxhall oil and genuine filter and regular 6 month oil changes and keep an eye out for any oil leaks

But what's wrong with Castrol oil and K&N filters?

I was thinking to buy Castrol Edge or something good quality. As far as I know Vauxhall uses cheap bulk mineral oil.

Ok. Fair enough. Maybe that's what I should do.

I get money on the 28th and at the moment on my to do list are:

oil and oil filter
pollen filter
air con cleaning
air filter.. can be OEM. I was thinking about K&N though.
fuel filter

yeh k&n panel filter is a good mod along with air box mod

i can get 10/40 semi from vxhall for £8.50 for 5 litres if bought in bulk

As far as i'm aware, Vx don't sell mineral oil anymore. I made a call on Tuesday about mineral oil for a friend of mine and the chap on parts said that its not stocked anymore.

Just looked up this Partnumber: 93165220 and its 15W40 for a Cavalier 89-95??

Ok guys. I think I hear something in my engine haha

I can only hear it only when I'm not stationary.

I cannot hear it when I accelerate, no matter how hard and at any revs.

But once I lift my foot up off the accelerator pedal I hear sort of squeeky chain noise. The noise goes away when I press accelerator pedal.. It also goes away when I use brakes.

Do you think there may be a slack which causes the noise?

I think I'll have the chain replaced after all. Just for peace in mind.

Your going to get a different answer to that question on here then AOC

the chain would only rattle when the engine is first started in the morning, it would rattle for approx 5-10 seconds

if it's quiet then it should be ok, a 2004 will have the later cam chain kit fitted at the factory

if you want peace of mind then get the chain kit swapped, I did this on my 2003 engine even though it was the later spec, just wanted peace of mind myself :thumbup:

I didn't asked that question there yet. I just noticed that noise going on and off depends on accelerating, braking recently. Today I thought I would ask.

AOC is very much Z20LET / Z20LEH (?)forum and Z22SE engines are somewhat underrated there. But there are still many Z22SE Astra owners there. :-P

Could you recommend any good place where I can have it done properly and for a fair price? Somewhere let's say within 100 miles from Northampton.

The stealers charge about £500 for 2 chains replaced I think.

EDIT: I'll record a video and upload on youtube later..

my 2003 astra cabby is on its second chain had it replaced at vx dealer at 51k due to rattly chain
dec 2008
replaced my battery this afternoon started car and chain going again 14k and 20 months later

vx custmoer care said though sh*t the cars 7 years old

the joys of using vx dealers and genuine vx parts with vx prices
