Chain done now low compression

Well joy of all joys.

I have done a compression test and got 180 PSi on 1 & 2 then 80 in 3 and 4. I would have expected 0 if the valves were bent. what would cause this.

Also joy of Joys. I have dropped a torx bit into piston 2. :o

I had just done the compression test and about to fit the new plugs and did up the screw on the rocker cover.

Any tips how to get that out?

Apart from taking the head off no idea to get the bit out. Unless its magnetic and you have a small magnet on a long aerial type of stick but even then it be tricky!

Long screw driver with a good dolop of grease on the end :thumbup:

And if the timing is out you will have low compression. have a good look and make sure its bang on :thumbup:

now that I have turned it over without plugs what do I need to line up the paint marks to check the timing or is it just the cam and crank wheels in the right spot?

I am hoping that is all it is.

Well I have removed the rocker cover again, Got the Torx bit out with a cool LED torch with a spring mounted magnet on a telescopic rod. very cool jigger.

I have reset it at TDC I believe can you please confirm this by the pics.

going buy counting the links on the chain (on TDC the should be 14 links between timing makes on cams not inclunding the ones next to the marks themselves 16 including them) looks good to me

I have just tried squirting 5mll of oil into the cylinder 3 and 4 and it has come up to 195 and 210 psi. the same treatment on the other to came up to 185 and 190. am I right in thinking this is worn rings? or is it just lack of oil for 2 weeks while I have had it apart that has dried out the the rings?

I also have oil int he injector Harness. is this normal?

I only have half a lobe on one of the inlet valves, I will loan a photo of this shortly but is this common as well?

Well despite the low compression and the dodgy looking cam she is running better then she ever has in our ownership time. I should have done the chain when we first got her. just thought the dealer would have done it when they should have.
