SRI to GSI conversion

Hi there guys looking to change the engine in my car as I think for the money to get it fixed might as well stick something else in it. Ideally I would of loved to put a turbo lump in it its just a tad out of my budget.

If I got a GSI car and drop the sub frame and do the same for the SRI is it easy to swap them over? Also don't know many peeps where I live can you recommend anyone or if any of you guys can do it and for how much?

should be quite easy if your going to chuck it all in subframe and all,
if you have a donor car then all you need will be there, all the lights etc will be stand alone, you may have some difficulty getting all your gauges to work most can be adjusted with resistors or stand alone not sure about the engine temp gauge. on mine i was flogging a dead horse and had to install an aftermarket one.
what you will need to do is disconnect the hubs and pull them away leaving the driveshafts out and (depending on how you feel about it you may want to take them off entirely) disconnect the steering in drivers footwell release the wiring harness from the engine and any pipe work,
you will have to be quite ruthless!!
once all the parts are disconnected from both cars the removeal and re-fitting are the easy bit should only take a day with some help :thumbup:
then you will need to wire the engine back to the car which with the way the looms are built is going to be a right shit (gotta be honest!!!)
i dont know how similar to the origional wiring that part will be notsure.gif maybe someone here will know
its definately do-able its just how far your willing to go.
(oh and hopefully you have cover as i did mine outside at this time of year and was constantly set back by our lovely weather!)

2.2 to 2.5 can be done buy a smashed 2.5 un bolt the subfram with the engine thatn do the reverse job done

Thanks for the reply guys, sounds fairly simple but problem is I dont have the space at my house so I probably have to see how much a garage would charge to do this. I don't mind getting my hands dirty at all but i got mickey mouse tools 😃 I be making some calls see what can be done. The donor car isnt MOT'd and has no interior think the only thing missing off engine is the ABS module i believe.

surely its not just plug n play?

i have all the stuff (hoists tools etc) but no venue the mrs and her folks will go skitz if i start another one on the drive! :lol:

seems to be plug n play ish, yeah i could be up for giving you a hand,
i wouldnt want much, as it sounds interesting and im confident and thorough but not a pro! (we would have to ask me mate to van the hoist over)

Cheers mate i appreciate that, asking about to see if we can get a place to operate lol. Prefer to try and get a place under cover like you said you can never rely on this weather. Going to try and strike a deal to get the Recaro interior with the car so if it goes ahead and if your interested you can have my old interior for your mrs. Its half leather and in excellent condition no rips or tears at all. Might be a guy in Axminister who can do it waiting for confirmation. Thanks again mate really nice for you to offer :thumbup:
