symptoms of oil in inlet manifold

Oil and gunk in the inlet manifold, if left what would it do that engine?
If any of you guys have read my threads you would know I got a smokey joe problem. The car is blowing blue smoke when i hit high revs. Since I have done some work trying to get my vectra running its got better. The smoke is still coming and been told it could be valve stems and rings. While im hoping it aint going to be this im going out on a limb and thinking could it be the inlet manifold? Mine is full of oil and there is a puddle of oil sitting in there. I've been contemplating whether to take it off and clean it but it looks like a bit of a job? Is there a guide for newbies to do this? If oil is leaking into the inlet manifold would it make the blue smoke? Thanks for all you help guys my car wouldn't even be running properly without your advice :thumbup:

im more than likely 100% wrong buttttt , your rocker cover has an oil breather , thats connected to your air intake pipe which goes to your throttle body which then goes to your inlet manifold . so maybe too much oil in the engine notsure.gif ? dunno..

ive just rebuilt my top end recently ( guides and seals) and still smoking so i changed the rings and this completely solved the problem, i still have oil and gunk in my inlet manifold as i havent had time to clean it but this didnt cause the engine to smoke. always prepare yourself for the worse as and if you taking the head off its just as well as u change the rings especially high mileage engines. i found it a good idea putting in an oil catch tank as they are cheap and catch any oil and condensation from the rocker cover breather pipe. i empty mine one a week with engine checks and always get some fluids out it just stops them storing in the manifold. im only a newbie at these engines and found them easy to work on, just make sure that all torque settings are used

Thanks for your reply mate think I was hoping it would be a easy fix. I was dreading to hear that its more likely the rings and stuff but guess reality just served me a can of whoop ass! No where near confident to do that i'm afraid but thanks again for saying mate and glad you got yours sorted 🙂

if its holding oil in the manifold you might be better taking it off and giving it a clean, at least you can eliminate that and see where you go from there, anyway hope you have better luck than i did, had the head off 5 times in a week before i got it right instead of changing everything at once in the first place

Yeah mate going to try and get the manifold off see if it makes a difference. Did you manage to take the head of easy? Do you need and specialized tools to do that??
