2003 Vectra 2.2 SXi engine stalls after 15-20 seconds

OK Help,

Bought my first Vectra 52 plate 2003 2.2 petrol 16v SXi last week and yesterday started up on drive and after 15-20 seconds the engine stalled. Tried again and it did exactly the same.

It starts up perfectly and idles at 1500 then as soon as it starts to drop the revs it starts running lumpy then cuts out. It is possible to dip the clutch and rev and keep the car going but it's no way to drive.

The EML has not come on during these various start and stops but the EML light is definitely working as it comes on with ignition and goes off when the car starts.

Have I got the right engine and bulletin board ? as someone told me the Z22ZH didn't come out till 2005 ish cars

Help....................I'm in Colchester Essex if anyone has any advice or experience on these engines................as I would rather try and work this out myself rather than a big bill from my Vauxhall dealer.

check the egr valve isn't stuck open, whip it off and see if the plunger is sticking up

OK quick update. Didn;t have the correct 13mm socket when I looked at the car on Saturday but decided to start her up give her a few revs and a few light taps on the outside of the EGR valve. Anyway long story short she ran without cutting out.

So it does look like a sticky EGR vavle so the next step is blanking off the EGR so what's the best way and what are the costs ? Vetra C 2003 Z22SE 2.2 petrol. Cheers

Also secondary point not sure if anyone has had this the fan controls only seems to work on setting 4 (the strongest) is this just a simple replace of that unit ?

You cant just blank the EGR if its bust mate, the EGR still has to work and plugged into the loom to just blank it. If you want to take it out of the system completely then get the blanking plate from VX and then get the EGR cheater from the Club shop. The Fan problem your having is caused by a blown resistor. Its on the bottom of the motor behind the glove box. Its blown because the drain hole is blocked in the slam panel and water is getting into the motor via the pollen filter. Pop the rubber flap on the slam panel and clean out the drain hole, then replace both pollen filter and resistor pack and that should sort that.

The YH by the way was fitted to all Vectra Estates and Signums, but was only fitted to the Vec hatch and saloon on 54 plate I believe. TBH the SE is far far more reliable, just down a little on MPG and about 10 horses.

agreed with rushy they blow for a reason unless the car is like over 10 years old - looks easier to get to as well as on the calibra you had to take out the linkage and motor to get near the heater resistor

Part number for the resistor pack is 9180020. Its a common fault mate so Vx should have them in stock, should cost around £25 unfortunately.
