FLD Hi guys, I've been tinkering with this head and I have just ground out some bits round the valves to reduce the shrouding. In doing so I uncovered this tiny bubble in the most inconvenient place. It just had a foil covering it on the mating face so before my tinkerings was unseen. How easy a repair would you say it is? I'm thinking, weld - normalise - skim. Your thoughts would be very welcome.
vocky you can remove a little more from there 😃 ps: don't worry about it, thats what most alloy heads are like
FLD I did consider that but when I measured the chamber diameter and the bore its a perfect match. I didn't want to take any more out (c.a. 1mm) and end up blowing head gaskets or worse liners. I've seen these little buggers before but never in such an unfortunate position.
vocky I thought you was talking about the small hole, but I guess it's the 'nic' on the gasket edge, not the best place for a bubble 🙁 perhaps get it welded and the head skimmed again :silent:
FLD Therein lies another problem. I was planning on using the stainless fire rings and copper gasket rather than reliner the block. Its on the shopping list but recent catastrophe's have lest cash in short supply. Do you still reckon leave it with this headgasket combo?
FLD Yeah it was. When I started taking out the shrouding round the valve I uncovered that little blighter. On the mating face it had a really thin cover of aluminium but obviously it opened up. Soon get fixed, just need to make sure I do it right.
FLD Meh, its one of those things you cant see until you start playing with your angry snake! Just unfortunate placement.
