alarm randomly going off

hello there. newbie question here..........think it may be the power sounder. the problem is random trigerring of the alarm.
the horn goes off and lights flashing. seems to be more common shortly after using car , maybe upto about 15 mins after.
the power sounder is not going off , i assume this is a siren type affair?
would the batteries going in the power sounder cause the horn/lights to go?
my local dealer has one in stock for £75.20 - is this reasonable or rip off??

This does sound like a power sounder problem from what you have explained. Same symptoms as I had with the wifes Zafira and more recent problems with dodger's Astra power sounder.

Also, have a look in the similar topics listed at the bottom of this page regarding alarm issues.

does sound like the power sounder batteries are failing which is causing random triggers.

You have two options
1) Just change the Power sounder for a new one (Autovaux sell them delivered for just under £70)

2) Find someone in your local area with a TECH2 / OPCOM device to diagnose the fault (If your in south wales Daz maybe the closest to you)

thank you gentlemen. would the tech2/opcom diagnostic be only at main dealers? or would independants have them?
i'm inclined to try the sounder change myself , judging from the information gleaned from the internet. thanks for the responses though.

Daz is in Newport and has the relavent equipment for diagnosis. If you decide to change the PS then its quite straight forward as you've probably read.

i'm thinking you must be kind of a legend perhaps........you must be pretty posh if you have this tech2/opcom thingy. sounds like you're better equipped than Taffspeed, they're the only tuners down that way i have experience of back when i had a tuned Vespa 20 odd years ago

i'm in Aberdare , not too far away . Apparantly a boy down in Pontypridd has tech2 according to my friend who has a garage in Abercynon.
Probably going to try a power sounder monday when its in having oil changed .

Would fit myself (and oil as well) but had really bad arthritis for last couple years ( i'm only 38 too) so my friend in Abercynon is doing it monday. Hopefully the alarm issue will get sorted then with power sounder swap.
Used to be able to do majority of my car maintainance myself before the old creaky bones started to give issues. Only spanner wielding I get to do now is my mountain bike or old school bmx's , shame I can't actually ride them anymore........

Its the sounder! Same thing happened to mine going off at t w a t o clock. £120 ish fitted at the local Stealers!

Well, basically there is no need to be able to do my own car maintenance before most of the creaky old bones start to the problem. Only wrench waved me to do now is my old school BMX or mountain bike, and shy, I did not take the experience once.
