engine+gearbox dimensions?

Hi all,

I am looking to build a mid-engined kit car (midi locost) and was wondering if anyone has any rough dimensions for the Z22SE engine and gearbox?? Just trying to work out possible engine options, nothing too serious yet. cheers..

I can measure the basic z22se engine block, I haven't got a complete engine at the moment

not sure about the gearbox as you would probably use a rwd box like the manta / omega / ford dunno..

I'll be using the vectra/zaf/vx box as I am after a transverse configuration. Mid engined - rear wheel drive... kinda difficult to make it fwd if the engine is behind you. :lol:

lots of 30's in the dimensions :wtf:

wide = lefthand side to righthand side
deep = front of car to back of car

the vx220 engine bay is roughly 630mm deep and 930mm wide

the z22se bare engine is 530mm wide, 430mm deep and stands 630mm high (this size is the maximum engine height - sump on floor to top of oil filler cap)

the gearbox is 330mm wide, 500mm deep (the diff sticks out the back) and 430mm high

Out of interest, is it just me or does the engine lean at different angles in various cars? notsure.gif On the VX it angles forwards and on the Vectra/Zafira et al it appears to angle back? Its only ten degrees or so, but still... I think it'll help space wise to have it in the Vectra position rather than the VX, space is tight! Edit been through a few vx threads, it appears to be an illusion, they're all banking back a bit. 🙂

Oh and very nice car sir, very comprehensive rebuild, stunning.

the angle is the same because you stand looking at the engine from the front on a vectra/zafira/astra but look at the rear on the vx220 engine
