Body Coloured Centre Console

Been sourcing all the components for the center console and finally got the last bit after stealing it from a scrapyard ....oops 🙂 (left plate on the cig tray)

the whole centre console i had sourced was the dirtiest thing i've ever seen and have just spend an age trying to clean it and managed to get black dirty water everywhere (the missus was not happy ) but she does not understand the bond between me and my car 😃

O well pointless little modificaition to the car but it will keep me happy untill my mate fixes my engine .....dont know why i decided to start this ....but its going to look mental !!! 8)

i'm thinking about respaying my console but dont really know what paint to be using. i know there is specially formulated plastic paints out there, i find the original finish on my console very soft and too easy to scratch. did it take much effort to remove the centre console?

As long as you use a proper plastic primer, it's fine to use standard paint. It's all about the preparation.

Take out your head unit and there's 2 screws and there's a few more down at the bottom ( by the cig tray) after that you need to unclip your mfd display ,heating controlls ect. I'm getting a mate of mine to spray it as he owes me a favour ( and does it for a living ) just a quick note, be carefull when you unclip things take time ad don't rush and snap the connections. It's easily done when my engine was sorted last time they snapped all the connections... ( the good doctor told me when he has a look at my poorly z22se )

The more prep work you do minimises fcuk ups !!!

I spent 3 days prepping the spoiler that I fitted to my Astra G, and it still wasn't 100% perfect.

We can all strive for perfection . But perfection is rare 🙁 the dude whos spraying it for me is a perfectionist so hope he can get it to a high standard for me ! Changing the subject .... I love your car !!!

I sprayed my console etc, prepping them is the hardest part, you have to removes 100% of the rubber coating or it will react,and look pants,,,,

I want to go and do more prep work .... But have to go to the cinema ... Might sneak in the smaller parts and prep them lol

hey daz looks great, what kind of paint did you use? how did you go about fitting the gauge into the air vent

Used an aerosol m8.... and the gauge is mounted in a custom vent so it fits neatly in the apeture

did you laquer over aerosol? fantastic finish and the gauge is next mod for me cos untill i change the rings i gotta keep an eye on the oil.

here's mine if you get the dash out of a basic spec astra there is no rubber coating on it so is a little easier to do :thumbup:

That looks really neat with the sat nav in there like that! Have you got a thread on how you made it?

gotta admit it looks the dogs danglies, have you just changed the bulbs to leds in the display or is it a ready fitted unit. is it me or has anyone else noticed the standard paint is a little rubber and flimsey?

TBH i just relocated the original hazard switch in the tray below the heater dial. i have seen some (on this site) that have been relocated in the cig lighter hole using a switch out of a saab or a mk3 astra (they are nice round ones 8) ) i keep meaning to do it but just not got round to it :oops: :crazy: .
