Changing Brake Pads

Hey guys,
Just wondering if there was a how to anywhere on changing brake pads? Do i have to bleed them? How do i do that?

I only ask as i have never had anything to do with them, and i wouldnt know were to start and its the last thing i want to mess with if i have no idea were to start.
Ive got a fair idea on what might need to be done, but some pictures and explanations wouldnt go a stray..

you shouldn't need to bleed the brakes after. which are you doing fronts or rears

you found someone else to do yours have ya D because last time i checked they were nearly metal on metal!!!! & i haven't fitted them yet!!!!

Been engine braking for a while now lol, will have to have a chat soon me 'ol mucker.

if its front your doin its an allen key top and bottom at the back of calliper pull off the bit you just undid put new pads on and push back the piston till you can fit it back on again then redo the allen keys ded easy the back is a bit of a twat coz the pistons dont push back toy have to wind them back so unless you wanna invest in a tool to do this dont bother i got mine 30 quid from halfords and it does the job in seconds ps its bolts on the back aswell same place but not allen keys hope this helps

Ill be doing both front and back, so thanks for the replys, what sort of tool is it you need? cwpfos, You got any links or pictures? I might be able to make it at work..i suppose it would look like some sort of G clamp

i have no links as such but just typed in "piston wind back tool " on ebay and theres pages of them just use daz's pic as a guide to make sure you get the right thing :thumbup:

When winding the piston back, do you have to open the brake reservoir and leave the cap off? and then top it up once done?
Or do you just wind it back and check the level. (i heard it could be bad sending the fluid backwards moving some rubber seals in the brake system.)

Oh, and ive just released there was a "Brakes/Transmition" section, sorry, please move post if needed.

yep soz 4got to mentio that u just need to take the cap off dont need to top up levels also when doin the back take the hand brake off and when new pads back in place press the brake to push the piston back out without the ignition on this will reset the handbrake mechanism to even it up if you like

unfortunately thats the front hes doin which doesnt require turn an push just push which although hard can be done with 2 thumbs no problem all hes doin with that tool is opening up the 2 bits of metal as he turns the nut which still wouldnt wind back the piston good find though :thumbup:

oh ok, so you need to twist and push the piston at the same time for it to go back? Heres another youtube vid with a guy explaining what i think needs to be done.

thats the one mate yep twist and push but the way hes doin it is very hard notice how he only explains how you can do it if you dont have the right tool and doesnt actually demonstrate all the red face, sweating cutting his hands to ribbons by slipping and the 1 hour later and calliper still doesnt go back together coz youve only wound it back one mm part of the job 😃 honestly its so so so worth gettin the tool 1st time i did it i used simmilar methods to what hes showin and it was just ridiculous how hard it was :thumbup:
