New HU

The new head unit was delivered yesterday, and I'm just waiting for the fitting kit to turn up today (between 2pm and 3pm)

I tested it in the car last night, to make sure all the wiring works that I've already got, and it works :thumbup:

Tested the iPod

I've also sorted the wiring harness, so that I can bypass the parking brake feature
The long green wire is the hand brake cable, so that is just crimped onto the earth on the harness.

Next was to connect the powered Fakra aerial to the 5v accessory wire
I've never been very good at soldering!

And this is the connects2 canbus steering control adaptor

Very nice Matt, the only thing I don't like about those is you can't remove the front panel. I had a lovely Pioneer Double din unit with sat nav the lot, I sold it not long after as I was worried about it getting nicked. Has yours got the sat nav?

Cheers Mark. No, it doesn't have satnav, I've got a decent TomTom, so wasn't a requirement.
I was initially concerned about not being able to take it out, but it's a secure fitment with the double din kit I bought. Only thing I don't like is the USB port being on the front, so I'm going to get a couple of SDHC cards.

I've buggered up in the past. Trying to rest the HU on the gear stick whilst threading the wires in behind the dash and the HU falls and catches the facia or heater controls. :thumbdown:

I'm on the PC now so I can see your pics better. I was viewing on the iPhone earlier. It does look fantastic!

I think it's only JVC that do a decent double din removable front panel. Wish I had bought that for my Vectra 8) . Is the surround staying on ok around the unit? Mine always felt loose

I've done that before. It's so much easier when there is a double din slot, especially in the Astra, as if you remove the glove box, there is loads of room where you can feed the wires through the side.

Yes Roger, full iPod control including album art, and the ability to watch the videos off it.
