astra bertone 2.2 Burning oil

hi was just wondering could someone shed some light on my oil burning problem. car doesnt smoke until i roll down hill and then throtle as i get onto the flat then you notice a big cloud of smoke, ive already ordered new stem seals as i have to change a cracked head but curious as i would rather change the rings at the same time, there is no contamination of the oil or water. car is missing due to water in no4 plug, does anyone know the torque settings for the spark plugs as i dont want to be splitting this head. i would be very grateful for any help thanks

Sounds to me like oil leaking past pston rings but hard to tell if you have other issues going on regarding the head. If ou were planning on changing the rings anyway it would be a good idea. In my opinion....... :oops:

hi obsessive thanks for your reply, i'm on a budget at the moment so ive managed to get valve guides and stem seals for about £70 and sorced another head for £120 luckily the scrappy didnt realise what they were worth, so i'll rebuild the head first and see where i go from there. i got done over as i was told the car needed new plugs and found out the heads split, ive only had it for a week but i reccon it has to be the best vauxhall ive owned. anyway thanks for reply and hope i can help you sometime
