best way to remove engine?

well as above really what is the best(easiest) way to remove the z22se engine out of the car baring in mind i dont have a great deal of room as ill be doing it on my drive/garage.

Is it to remove complete engine with the subframe or can it be lifted out ??? never removed an engine before so might be very interesting

or other optio i have is to break car sell everything on her and get a new one lol

dunno on a vectra but on an astra you support the engine with a hoist, undo the mounts then lower it onto a low trolley then drag it out through the front shouldnt take too long.

take it you lower the engine complete with sub frame? im bidding on an engine on ebay 62000miles ive heard it running and its seems fine but ill prob strip it and rebuild with new rings, bearings and chain before removing mine anyway,

any idea how long it would take to swap a complete engine out including swapping the gear box from from my old engine to the new?

yet another question lol can the vectra b engine not be removed from above or is there not enough room?

like i said i dont know about the veccy! id say it would be less hassle as you wont need to have the engine up so high on the hoist notsure.gif
you should be able to easily do it in a day with help from a mate depends on how quick/ruthless you are. we were able to be a bit brutal in places as we knew the air con was never going back and we could remove some of the loom.

i was reslly suprised how easy it was in and out,
and all that tripe they feed you about them needing jig's to put the subframe back in is bollocks as long as your methodical. :thumbup:
not a single quirk with my handling :thumbup:

We took the engine out the top on my vectra b, it needs to be at quite an angle to come out though. The z22se isnt attached to the subframe as much as some of the other engines are.

cool was it quite an easy job? i dont like the sound of removing the engine with subframe as sounds like id be making more work for my self

depends really it allows you to assemble the block to the gearbox while you have the engine out, it definateley helps for clutch allignment as you have to be very carefull, especially if you dont have the correct allignment tool as you can easily rotate the engine to make sure its all nica and free at regular intervals.

Its quite a compact engine, the main problem is getting it past the abs pump.

If it needed to be done again, it would come back out the top.

well if it needs to be removed i shall take it out of the top or try an dya i can see why the asb housing would get in the way did you just take it out at a angle

yeah, the gearbox was kept low until the crank pulley cleared the chassis leg and the whole engine could swing to the drivers side until the gearbox cleared.

How'd it go?

I'm about to remove the engine from my zafira and is a bit curious as to what is simplest. taking it from the top or lowering it?

THis posts like 1 year old...lol...... but in answe to ure question i would say out the bottom on a zaffy due to restrcited top access.....but u never no , it may come out the top...

it also saves taking the driveshafts off if its not neccessary.
