engine probs AGAIN!!

Ok so i did an engine rebuild(top end plus new rings, i honed bores) all was fine as i said in previous post until 260 miles later and im left with it smoking again, i werent sure what it was as it looks like white smoke, ive checked plugs etc and all four are covered in oil and so are tops of pistons, ive done a compression test and results are as follows:
based on average reading, four readings per cylinder :
no1 : 12.15 bar
no2 : 12.55 bar
no3 : 13.22 bar
no4 : 12.02 bar

is this looking like rings or bores?
or is it likely be head gasket
I have also noticed small amounts of water coming from exhaust

any help appriciated as i have proper had enough of this car now

Do a wet compression test as this will tell you if its the bores/rings or just valves/valve seating and/or gasket trouble. Same readings will say valves/head/etc. Higher readings will say pistons/bores

so if i do a wet compression test, if it is bores and rings what can i expect to happen to the readings

i presume if rings or bores are worn the compression would increase when wet as the oil seals the rings ? my results are quite the opposite
here are the readings (wet test)
no1 : 8 bar
no2 : 7.5 bar
no3 : 9.4 bar
no4 : 8.9 bar

very strange im lost now

That is very strange! Im thinking bottom end damage/worn bearings on crank etc. Did/have you replaced bottom end crankshaft bearings?

Perhaps invest in 1 of these, stick it in the car and enjoy! It may be more satisfying! rofl..

yes all bearings were replaced and torqued up correctly even old ones had no signe of damage at all think i may blow engine up but keep the car as its in mint nick might cut some flaps out flint stone style

infact now you mention it im not sure the bearings were replaced, if they are worn this wouldnt cause oil burning though would it?

Yes it would because if the bearings are worn/damaged the the pistons would have movement where the should'nt have. Thus in turn as they go up & down will cause damage to rings/bores. This may also explain why it ran ok for a couple hundred miles then same thing happened again (new rings/bores damaged again).

Im not 100% on this so anyone please correct me if im wrong, but thinking about it, it does sound logical.

ok cheers mate ill bare this in mind does make sense i might just buy a new bottom end then in theory ive had a complete new engine lol
cant take it off the road just yet though so i think im going to have to just drive it carefully until i can get it done

hoping it aint this but it does seem like a logical explanation

also i forgot to unplug the injectors on the wet test so might explain the dodgy reading ill do another tomorrow and see if its any different

right ok so if that is the problem would it be ok to replace pistons, rings and bearing hone it and should be ok??? or will i need to replace the block?

thinkiong if i can get away with replcing i will get some uprated pistons

Yeah Id say why not go the whole 9 yards, no point doing things by half. Give AtomX a message and ask if he has a bottom end or at least ask his opinion first.

ya will do cheers cant do anything with it just yet so ill have to cope with it how it is no power loss anyway just have drive carefully mite save me cash and get uprated pistons etc and a uprated head or port n polish mine

Well i have some good news ive just done a proper compression test results are
no1 cylinder = 15 bar
no2 cylinder = 14.5 bar
no3 cylinder = 15 bar
no4 cylinder = 15 bar

this is all pretty spot on although no2 cylinder is .5 of a bar lower then the others is this .5 anything to be worried about or is this not enough to show damage as engine rating state maxium of 1 bar between any cylinders and that only .5

oil must be coming from else where and my bet is valve guides

its used 4 litres of oil in 90 miles so somethings wrong but how would this explain the fact it was fine for 260miles ?? is it more likely to be the head gasket????
