Driver side window won't go up

just as I pass the 100k mark on my astra coupe bertone little anoyying things are going wrong , my drivers side window being one of them 🙁

When I shut the door the window will go down automatically (no ignition no engine) about 2 inches. I think press the up button with the ignition/engine on and the window will go down and i keep pressing it it will continue to go right down. Once it is down 100% I repeatedly tap the up button till eventually the window went up (it would make a clicking sound every time i pressed up). However just now it's become a more major problem since the clicking stopped when i was pressing the up button and now my car is parked with the window fully down and i've got a blanket over it to protect it from the rain but it won't do much against some drunken chav.

I'm gona take it to the garage as soon as I can , I was hoping to wait till i got home (10 days) so I could get this fixed at my garage along with a couple of other things and a full service.

Does any1 know what the problem is and any quick ways i could fix it ? To save leaving my car with its window down outside overnight 🙁

Could the motor controlling the window be on it's way out?

I was told to test it, wind down the drivers side and passenger side at the same time, and they should go down at the same rate. If they don't one will be on it's way out.

I had this problem on my old Mk2 astra! I had to get another electric window mechanism inc motor (which i got from a scrap yard), drilled out the rivets and fitted the new one with nuts n bolts. After i took the old one apart i noticed the cable had become damaged and the strands caused wear in the motor gearbox mechanism.

You could try this - get the window between both palms and raise it that way whilst someone keeps the up button depressed. It may make some funny noises but with you easing the pressure on the motor etc it just may rise!

I'm a complete novice when it comes to car parts so I had a guy round to diagnose the problem , the motor/metal parts are completely gone and it looked like someone had been in there before I bought the car. He's getting a quote for the parts and then im just gona get it fixed , said it would cost over 100 quid. Don't really have an option but to pay tho since I wouldn't be able to do this myself!
