Starter motor problem / You need to know this!

Anyone had a starter motor problem yet? I know of a car / 2.2 who's starter motor went. He got a normal garage to fix it and they over tightened the bolts holding it to the engine. Doing this cracked the engine as it's only aluminium and he needed a new engine :? . So if you lot ever need a new starter motor get the dealers to fix it on :wink:

Who paid for that then -- hope it was the garage, surely the guy did not have to stand the cost himself 🙁

I think he lost out some how notsure.gif . I remember seeing the engine out and it got scrapped :? . I think it was a pal who did it for him or some back street garage notsure.gif

I work at vauxhall in lancashire n its because its an alloy block its very easy to damage it especially easy to strip threads . So be carefull people cheers..

my starter motor burnt out but its not just the sm you should change, you should also change the part of your ignition switch that controls the starter motor as this gets stuck and causes the sm to stay on while the engine is running hence the burn out its the back part the other side to where your key goes and its about 30 quid from a dealer but worth it .

i bet they did it up with an air gun the garage. i would have been really pissed off it that was me tho.

my old vec had a starter motor prob lem got it replaced by vx

but even with new starter it still played up

its not always the starter motor at fault it can be your ring gear (what the starter turns)

i no longer have my vec b but it still had the problem when i traded it in

Had the starter motor fail on the missus Vectra C 2.2, little bit fiddly to change but no big deal - as always, use a torque wrench with manufacturers values

yes the ring gear came loose causing the starter to spin the gear but not the flywheel so not turning the engine

Well shit the bed we bought our sri 150 about 4 months ago and it had a leak from just above the starter on the engine casing.My local garage said the casing had a split that someone had tried to fill so they welded it £300 squid seems ok after 3 months even garage couldnt understand how it had split.

Are you sure you haven't been fucked over? The oil pressure sensor is directly above the starter motor and that leaks oil once its seal has gone. Less than £20 for the sensor.

Got my botty clenched now mate! the filler was running along the top of the join with the sump and bottom block from what i could tell and it was pissing out
