I've been lurking on here for a while because I have a Z22se in a Zafira and at some stage I may plonk it in my kit car. Predictably however the first major thing to go wrong on the Zafira seems to be the engine!
My wife was driving it this week when she heard a rattling noise, and then it conked out. When the RAC came out they thought it might be the starter motor failing to disengage and ratlling around on the ring gear. When you try to start the car all you get is a clicking noise and then a beep. Then the alarm goes off and you can't turn it off unless you disconnect at the battery.
I've had the starter motor out and there is no damage to the strater or ring gear.
Beyond the above clearly my first thought was the timing chain. I've just whipped the cam cover off and the chain has not snapped. However when I crank the engine by hand the chain goes through cycles of being tight and then going a bit slack - any ideas?
Any ideas what I should be looking at next?
