Ruddy Exhaust Blowing - Again!

So any advice on how to make sure at the fourth time of asking it seals and stays sealed?

I'm thinking of getting 3 new bolts, another genuine GM gasket and then notsure.gif

Frankly it's doing my head in and I want to get it sorted before my run to Billing.

Daz fitted the last one - therefore I know it was done 100% correctly so all I can think of is the thread is worn on the bolts and they are undoing themselves or something else is loose and or missing??

Are you sure its not your flexi pipe that's broken? Look for sooty deposits around the flexi section.

The manifold to downpipe gasket came in 2 different materials. The old type was a metallic coated card with a steel edge band around the hole and the new gasket is a twin layered pressed steel type. I have had both types and neither have ever leaked.

Have you checked the nuts are tight?

most likely it is warped

very common problem

every single vauxhall i have had the pleasure of owning has had same problem whether manifold or downpipe flange

it comes with age and mileage, constantly heating up and cooling down

Checked the bolts last night and they are nice and tight: Flexi looks ok to me.

If it is warped how much is a new downpipe and flexi? (May as well change that too if I go down this route)

Could the manifold be out of line, it has been changed and since then, I have had the blowing probllems?

Ive got the same problem with mine. I have a regal 4-1 manifold and a custom 2.5" system. Every time I accelerate moderately to hard i get a blowing noise! very little noise under light acceleration. Its obviously the flexi pipe even thou the chap at Elite said it looks ok. Ive had a price of £100 +vat to get it changed so im gonna do that end of month and also get some new engine mounts too.

Give it a try and see if when you accelerate lightly to hard (has to be moving so the engine is under pressure and rocks etc. If it keeps happening look at getting new engine mounts as this will help ease engine movement under acceleration, thus putting less strain on the flexi pipe.

u know if it is the flexi whenever u take off as it will sound like the downpipe is missing from the car lol

blowing from the manifold / downpipe it wont be as loud and brutal but you will get fuel smells in the cabin same as flexi

As you say MIke, it's not that loud, but you know it's there as you can here the blow when you back off.

Might not be any help at all but i've had a problem with my exhaust blowing for ages. Not at the manifold end though - the sleeve joints on my cat back are a bit poop and kept blowing, so I took all the clamps and cleaned the crap off then wrapped some heat wrap around the joints. Stopped the blowing and i guess because the wrap is flexible it'll last too :thumbup:
