New F23 SG gearbox fitted

The good Doctor has performed a gearbox transplant on my astra

It now has the F23 'SG' with a lower final drive ratio 3.9 from 4.1 (i think)

................in english it means its goes like stink!

Nice, but does this mean at speed your revs will be higher thus using more petrol????

At 70mph in 5th you'd be cruising at 3,200rpm roughly with the standard gearbox, with the F23 gearbox the revs will sit higher at the same speed. Possibly 3,350rpm at a guess.
So yes it would be safe to say that at higher speed the petrol consumption would be minimal and the top speed lowered. But like that matters much in this country anyway.

But on the plus side as Blue 2.2 said it'll be quick as.... for it.

the increase in consumption would be minimal*. The longer the gear the better the economy but the less response at cruising speeds. A six speed gearbox would give you the best of both.

good tuning mod if the engine is out anyway

What vauxhall model does this gearbbox come from the f23 sg im just wondering what to search for at the scrapyards :thumbup:

Do u know what engine zaf its from i saw atoms 2 for sale but cant raise to 300 quid at the min so thought if i knew what i was lookin for i could keep my eye open for a bargain my birds sister just let a 1.6 zaf go for nowt aswell coz she overfillled the oil and nearly killed it 🙂

Think that box is fitted in my 2.2 Vec C also.

it is also fitted to the vectra C, but they have a dualmass flywheel and the clutch won't work with a standard flywheel :thumbdown:

Do you know if the internals are the same? Ive got a spare ST gearbox awaiting a quaife, no point paying a premium for a zafira SG if ive got to pull it apart to go into a vec b bell housing anyway.

you have to swap the complete internals to change the final drive, but really it's just a case of simply changing the bell housing
