2.2 front pipe/cat/precat help

I have a 2.2 vectra b, the front pipe was blowing so i took it off and there was no precat, i thought it had been removed (it may have still been) however I had the split on the pipe welded, withing a few miles the flexi blew. My question is is there a chance that the pre cat has blown down into the cat and is blocking the exhaust? thus making it find a weak spot and blow, or am I just being paranoid?

I have purchased a second hand front pipe with a rattly cat, the plan was either to decat that and put it on, or cut my cat out and weld onto new front pipe.

how do i check my pipe? NO EM lights, no real loss of power, except at the moment with a big blow, is burning a bit of oil.

hard to say, i think someone had one drop but not all the way.
if the pre-cat removal hasn't been carefully done( emptied and blown out) the particles form the drilling out can drop into the cat block it and melt it.
