coolant loss after service ?

got my astra 2.2 coupe serviced by a mate who works at a large named car manufacturer/garage(!) yesterday and on way home it was stuttering on acceleration i thought it may have been due to a new fuel filter so carried on. it went on all the way home under acceleration..... looked under bonnet and smoke! all the coolant had decided to empty itself from its resorvior. it was all over the engine bay (towards rear of engine/bulkhead) so i can only assume its leaked out for some reason?
where abouts should i check for a leak? i cant see why the pipe would have split over night? is it safe to put water in it and take it to the garage on mon? and why would it judder under acceleration?

I would check the pipe into the thermostat housing under the EGR valve (or at least it is on the veccy)

Mine split and I had a very bad leak. lucky for youthe weather is better, mine did it when the weather was very hot a few weeks ago so the water was evaporating so the engine bay was dry.....that helped loads :thumbdown:

hi, i've just seen what it is. there is a crack in spark plug socket 1 on the cone/sleeve of the head.

you will need a new head due to the plugs being over tightened :thumbdown:

Ouch, cylinder head cracked due to over tightening taper fit plugs. New head I'm afraid, contact atom x if you need new heads, he sorted mine no problem 🙂

yeah i've contacted atomx but cos i'm completing on a house in july i cant afford to do anything with the car. Its balls how crap this engine actually is, its got a cam chain that snaps and costs a fortune to replace, they sometimes rattle like a tractor, the heads crack due to poor design of the spark plug holes, its prone to mayo in oil due to condensation. Its really pi55ed me off this car. I cant wait to break it, although i've loved it. Just cant believe its got new oil, filters, plugs. Breaks, pads and now i cant use it. Really depressing.

Mate, I feel for you - I have spent silly money on mine but check this out

Taper fit head - its not crap design, its crap that people to not respect torque when working on them. Book says 25nm, I'm running mine at 20nm with no problems, would rather sit on the right end of wrong
Cam chain snapping - probability decreased if proper oil and service schedules are adhered to. When Atom X and myself split my 60k engine down, all of cam chain including the old nozzle were in perfect condition - also they should never rattle
Any car is prone to mayo, I've never seen a problem in mine

The Z22SE is a good unit, the Vectra is a good car - like anything if its not looked after it will turn to shit pretty quick

yeah i know, i was just being a stressy bunny yesterday. Completing on a house in less than a month and having no car is getting to me.

haha - I understand, I bought one and found the cylinder head had been cracked and stuffed with filler to mask it and since then, I've punted £1000's into it. Hope the house goes well
