Advice needed on engine strip (DIY?)

Hi There

I have a veccy b (2001) 2.2 z22se

I need to have the valve stem seals done. I need some advice form someone who has taken the head off theirs.

I am quite mechanically minded, I do most stuff myself, but am unsure if this is one step too far!

How difficult is it? will haynes be enough. how much stuff do i need to replace with new (bolts and such?)

The plan is to take head off, send away to be skimmed and then do seals and check valves with a mechanic. we may look at the piston rings whilst it is in pieces.

and I wouldn't know what to do with timing chain.

Please help, advice on strip/rebuild and shopping list (and if there is anybody on here that you would advise i buy from)

it's quite easy, haynes manual is a good idea 🙂

you need 10 x large head bolts, 16 x valve stem seals and a head gasket :thumbup:

replace the timing chain, all vec B's had the old type fitted at the factory :thumbdown:

16 Valve stem seals. I get the head bolts as part of the complete head gasket set.

Timing chain is a deffo (despite having the rounded bolts so has been done at some point) I have seen the timing chain thread, loads of good info on there.

how do I reseat the valves with new seals in?

am looking to remove balance shaft and do piston rings whilst the car is in bits.
