Cracked cylinder head. Repair/replace?

Was looking at the posts regarding cracked cylinder heads. Couple of comments made that once cracked they're not worth repairing etc etc.

Why is this? Can't you just tig/mig weld the head?

Assuming that they've not cracked around the spark plug hole (as most z22ses do).

they all crack at the bottom of the spark plug recess, so impossible to weld dunno..

There's one guy on here who's head cracked between exhaust port three and four.

I take it if it's on a reasonably flat part of the head there's no problem in welding them then?

a few people who i've spoken to about cracked cylinder heads in relation to spark plug cracks suggest heli-coiling my work. These guys are fitters by trade, i dont know anything about helicoiling and its process but will it work? and if not, what are the reasons?
