Old topic cam chain.

Hi guys On saturday i picked up my new (used) gleeming sri vectra 2.2 With 59700 miles with service history.

On scouring forums for a new window reg...i noticed a lot of threads on a cam chain problem.

Gettin engrossed i went out and checked my engine and sure enough ive got the z22se.

Here's where i am hoping someone can help.

I am sorry if you have been through this many times and hope you dont get to peeved and just point me in the right direction.

I found the flat plate on the engine block with the numbers z22se etched into the steel...next to it in black are the following

PJO 012200517

Is this the engine number and if it is do i need to worry.

should you be worried about what?

A timing chain failure is usually a result of oil starvation as the tensioner is governed by oil pressure. you'll know if the timin chain is on its way out because it'll sound like a diesel. a noisy rattly sound...

If you hear it DO NOT ignore it, it'll only get worse and render the block scrap.

If you are worried it may be an idea to get the chain changed anyway to be safe as mine failed at around 60'000

Yep i was thinking of this but as the wife just had our old car written off and we are still waiting for a payment i went out and spent what little savings we had on this one...i just aint got 400/500 quid hanging around and wanted a little advice on the engine number.

there is a chap on here that does chains for a lot less than that... tbh if its not showing any signs of failure you shouldn't have much to worry about as long as its serviced regularly and generally looked after.

If its a vectra B, it will have the old style oil nozzle regardless of engine number, unless its already been changed of course.
