help with timing!!!!!

hello to all again! well ive just received my head back after having it rebuilt etc and now its time to set the timing and refit the chain how ever i seem to have stumbled across a problem. I have done the timing before with no probs however this time i have gone to set at tdc and when i turn the road wheel in order to do this the crank doesnt turn nor does the pistons. it was fine when i removed the head and since i took it off the wheels or crank havent been turned and even when i took crank pulley off i got someone to hold the brake in for me and put it in high gear as not to move. now im stuck not having a clue why this is notsure.gif any help would be appreciated

could this be fly wheel or something ? i undid the crank pully by pressing in the brake plus putting it in high gear just hope nothings broken :problem: sorry be a pain but does anyone have any idea what this could be ?????

Use the crank pulley to turn the crank

ya thats what i have done but shouldnt the road wheel turn the crank too?? :think:

Jack up the drivers side wheel put it in 1st gear then turn the wheel, it should turn quite easily with the spark plugs out 🙂

well this usually how id do it but ive jacked up both road wheels inorder to remove pre cat whilst doing the rest of the engine, ive tried putting car into 1st gear and rotate crank but nothing happens can see shaft rotating but the crank doesnt move im lost as was fine when i jacked it up. im all timed up now i roataed crank using the crank pully bolt but obviously wana get to the bottom of this or maybe just me being simple lol notsure.gif

You say that you jacked both road wheels. Is that both front wheels off the ground? then engine will not rotate irrespective of wether the car is in any gear. the force put through one wheel will cause the opposing wheel to contra-rotate

wouldnt that be funny if the other wheel was going the opposite way because he didnt put the wheel on the ground lol

cheers atom good advise as usual 😃 and ya must be me being simple lol well head and timings all done then time for mot i wana save n get the car to over 200bhp s/c me thinks :thumbup:
