2.2 Loosing water

Help!!!

My 2.2 is loosing a lot of water, not overheating, oil looks clear, but can't see any wet patches under the car.

are there any weak spots to check before i get annoyed with it?

Hi there have you checked cyliders for signs of coolant by removing plugs? i heard of a weak spot on the engine think was rear right corner and it can crack not sure if its a common problem or not tho over tightening the plug in no4 cylinder can crack head too , also check dipstick for signs of bubbling/mayo etc. ive had same but luckily turned out be a leaking head gasket. further to that check or white smoke just start engine and rev engine see if you can see any with mine i hd quite alot of white smoke other then that dunno..

Plugs are clear except no.2 which is sooted up, I'm burning oil, waiting for engine rebuild/replace. no mayo at all, oil clear (new oil and with burning it it's topped up every week or so)

No white smoke.

It's a pain in the A*** the coolent level sensor is coming on after about 10 miles. temp sitting ok.

One thing i did notice is that there was air in the system when opening the tank hot (a lot of air bubbling up)

worth a tr then to leave cap off and run for a while let any trapped air escape, also exssesive bubbling can be a sign of a fault. is the coolant clean i.e no oil. these engines do tend to burn quite abit of oil designed to use 1litre every 1000miles. have you done a compression test ( wet and dry) the soot may be just normal my plugs soot up quite abit and thats after an engine rebuild where i had complete head rebuild + new rings. possibly maybe just simply over heating hence the air bubbles and thus coolant useage might be orth getting it looked at to be sure as they can be a pain in the ass

Mines burning a lot of oil, a litre ever couple of hundred miles :thumbdown:

Waters clear, am going to run it with cap off and see if that helps.

txt mechanic today to hurry him up on his desicion to rebuild/new engine. want it fixed now

just want it to run until he does it.

compression test is 12bar dry on all four 15.5 bar wet on all four ( i think from memory, I know they are all equal)

thats good at least you know rings should be good maybe burning due to valve stem seals or guides as did on mine 1 was burning 1 litre every few hundred miles not good. as or coolant be worth finding out whats going on before rebuild as if heads cracked ull need a new one i have a spare now or will have once my 2nd head has been ported and polished. can get a head cheap enough anyway now ( - cams ) strange though is possible that its leaking some where and evaporating have you checked for signs i.e white burn marks on side of head and block ( z22se's get very hot) when its running whats the temp gauge say? hope it gets sorted dude

p.s just re-read ya post defo sounds like its burning due to valve seals id just get head off personal give it a good clean all over check valves and guides for sign of damage and wear if ok change valve seals and get it skimmed. thats what i did and ran pefect until te new head gasket failed doh :thumbdown:

sounds great, but i aint confident enough to be taking the head off 🙁 I do most stuff myself but thats a step too far for me, with timing chain and stuff. wouldn't know where to start

Ya very true but its not as hard as you ay think get your self a haynes manual nd look up anything you aint sure of on here or google i managed do two of my veccys my self. just have remember keep all your old bolts etc and ark up in plastic pots or bags where they are for. or could possibly speak to one the lads on here for some help if you can just take your head off it would be great as you could then take it to a machine shop to be cleaned and rebuilt. or your looking at alot of money in the garage for that work cost me 400 quid all together thats including cam chain kit for 110 + 87 for a battery so pretty chuffed. altho if you dont mind spending the money get a mechanic to do it for you at garage at least if its not right you can take it back. engine swap your looking around 1500-2000 depending on where you go these engines for a good one fetch £700 good look anyway what ever you decide to do be worth it if you are attatched to your car like me 😃

ive never had to top up my oil between changes.mine never seems to ever loose any.plugs are always a nice tan colour.i never get anything from the exhaust.
