Fine Fuzzy Vibrations Through Pedals, Steering and Gearstick

The saga goes on and on :lol:

Can you guys help with a diagnosis please - something is going on with it and I' wondering if there are multiple root causes. Here are symptoms...

I'm getting some vibrations from the engine, you can feel them go through the engine mounts and into the body
Also when driving getting a very fine fuzzy vibration through the brake, accelerator, clutch peddle, gear stick and steering wheel
They are usually worse on acceleration
It makes no difference if the clutch is in or out
I can feel a strong pulsing/vibration through the clutch which feels more like graunching when pulling away
Car revs fine, there is no misfiring
All sensors are in spec
Coolant temperature sensor has been changed
The idle is quite lumpy (revs dont move, but feels like its misfiring a little at idle - enough that you can feel it throughout the car)
No clicks, knocks or any other noises from suspension
Gears are smooth to select at the gearbox

I'm thinking (please correct me), vibrations when idle and clutch dipped would point me to something 'in the engine' or the way its mounted to the body.

Flywheel - if this was warped then it cause the vibrations through the clutch
Flywheel - if warped, would this cause the fine vibrations felt through the engine?
Balancer shaft - is there anything that happens to these and if so, could it cause the vibration?

Really appreciated the help, so close now to getting this car running great

engine mounts gone soft dunno..

It has to be something like that - I just ordered a nearside engine mount to test is. Will be here tomorrow. Car is 9 years old and covered 60k so perhaps it could be something simple like that.

Just pulled thing apart - offside engine mount in fine condition. Unsure about near side, thats tomorrows job :roll:

New n/s engine mount arrived at 8:30am by special delivery - nice wakeup call. Straight outside to fit it - not a bad job either which was a bonus. Took it for a drive, no difference. Thought about things for a bit and got the stethoscope out and tested vibrations from engine, into mount, into hydro bush then into body.

I can confirm that no vibrations are leaking from either o/s, n/s or rear gearbox mount.

My hypothesis is that the vibrations are being caused by the clutch problem and a reverberating through the bulkhead. Need to test more (and get the clutch sorted)

So now, I have another engine mount in perfect condition going to land on eBay 🙂

Think I may have sorted this - time will tell. I had suspicions that one of the front tyres was out of shape. Tonight I properly checked it for radial and lateral run out and bugger me, tyres had it.

I swapped the two rear tyres (almost new) with the fronts and took it for a drive - amazing difference, heres what happened

Previously, the car was pulling to the left - thats now sorted it drives straight
I was fighting the steering wheel - now I have no fighting
Fuzzy vibration through the pedals and steering wheel - no fuzzy vibrations
Vibration around 80mph - no vibration

What a difference a tyre makes - tonight I've ordered 2 x Toyo Proxies to bung on the car on Thursday, get the old shit off and get it in a known good state

This car is costing me a fortune, the thing is, I really like it 😃

Like you said, amazing what a crappy tyre can do. Place who did the tracking on mine said the two cheap no brands on the front are what are causing the increase in road noise above 40mph.

So after driving about today - the handling is massively different, straight and almost perfect. The fuzzy vibration through the pedals is still there though.

Tonight I fitted new drop links, the ones on the car had totally failed, none of them even had the metal wrap to hold the boot on. What a frickin pig of a job, I've done them before but cannot remember them to be so tough. The top bolt was easy, the bottom bolt due to access was a right pain. Had to get the grinder out for one of them

Anyway, point is, new ones fitted and a small test drive - noticed less vibration through the bottom steering knuckle which I think is transferring vibrations. Cannot be sure of this however, will only know after a few days of driving but regardless, its another job sorted
